Asia's Exposure to Mideast Fallout is Asymmetric, DBS Chief Economist Says -- Market Talk

0056 GMT - Asia's vulnerability to the crisis in the Middle East is asymmetric, says DBS's chief economist Taimur Baig. The region's energy and trade exposure to the fallout really varies: India is super vulnerable on both fronts because almost 15% of its exports go to the Middle East. "When you see the construction zones in Dubai or Qatar, the cranes are not John Deere cranes, they're Larsen & Toubro cranes. And if you see tractors, they're not from the U.S. or Europe. They're all Mahindra & Mahindra tractors." For the rest of Asia, 95%-96% of exports go to non-Middle Eastern markets. On energy, North Asia is super vulnerable, he says, citing South Korea and Taiwan as among the most exposed. (fabiana.negrinochoa@wsj.com)
