StubHub Seen With Lots of Risk, Little Conviction -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Mar 05

1045 ET - StubHub's second quarterly earnings release since its IPO showed weakness, and the outlook isn't much better, Wedbush analysts write in a note. They downgrade the stock to neutral and cutt their price target to $10 from $18. Wedbush is skeptical of StubHub's push toward direct issuance of primary tickets, which executives said may come at the expense of short-term revenue growth. "We have limited conviction and visibility today in the value of the direct issuance business, with management's lofty expectations for the segment unable to materialize as anticipated," the analysts write. They also see regulatory risks for the industry and view StubHub as among the companies most vulnerable to artificial-intelligence disintermediation. Shares slide 13%. (elias.schisgall@wsj.com)
