Hutchmed (HCM) said Wednesday it has started a phase I/IIa clinical trial of its HMPL-A580 antibody-targeted therapy conjugate candidate in certain cancer patients in the US and China.

The trial covers patients with unresectable, advanced or metastatic solid tumors.

In phase I, patients will receive HMPL-A580 intravenously at predefined dose levels to help determine the maximum tolerated dose and recommended dose for expansion.

Phase IIa will help further characterize the candidate's safety, tolerability and preliminary anti-tumor activity in selected solid tumors, and determine the recommended dose for the next phase, the company said.
