Lidar Defect Prompts Two-Phase Recall of Nearly 93,000 Geely Vehicles

China's State Administration for Market Regulation announced on August 22 that Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co., Ltd. is recalling 74,037 units of the Lynk & Co 900, Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, Lynk & Co 07, and Lynk & Co 08, produced between January 8, 2025 and December 10, 2025.

The recall stems from a supplier's manufacturing process fluctuations that may have damaged the power IC inside the lidar units. When the combined driving assistance system is active, this defect could lead to inadequate recognition, warning, or response to special objects, posing a safety risk under extreme conditions.

On the same day, Geely also recalled 18,878 units of the Galaxy M9, produced between July 20, 2025 and October 26, 2025, for the identical issue. In these vehicles, the same supplier process variation could cause the combined driving assistance function to deactivate or fail to activate. If the driver does not respond promptly, this may also present a safety hazard under extreme conditions.

In total, the two recall batches involve nearly 93,000 vehicles, covering two brands and five models under Geely's umbrella. The remedy for all affected vehicles is a free replacement of the lidar unit.

Since June, multiple online complaint platforms have logged numerous reports from owners of the Lynk & Co 900, Lynk & Co 10 EM-P, and Lynk & Co 08 regarding lidar malfunctions. Many owners have reported receiving "front lidar function fault" alerts while driving or upon startup, which immediately locks out the advanced driver assistance features. In these cases, the vehicles had not experienced any collision, water intrusion, or obvious external impact prior to the fault. After in-shop diagnostics, several owners were informed that the entire lidar assembly needed replacement, though service personnel did not explain the underlying cause of the internal damage.
