David Wang, formerly Credit Suisse's chief economist for Asia excluding Japan, has joined Bridgewater, one of the world's largest hedge funds, as head of China macro research, effective October, according to reports.
Wang will split his time between the United States and China, leading Bridgewater's China macro research team. Earlier in his career, Wang also worked as an economist in the IMF's research department, where he was responsible for macroeconomic forecasting for Asian and eurozone countries. Prior to that, he was a researcher on BlackRock's multi-asset solutions team, focusing on tactical asset allocation as well as country and industry rotation across equities and commodities.
His financial career began at Morgan Stanley, where he worked as an analyst primarily engaged in convertible bond underwriting and equity derivatives valuation. Wang holds a PhD in economics from Stanford University and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Chicago, during which he served as a research assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
