Post-Holiday Flight Prices Plummet, Multiple Routes Now Cheaper Than High-Speed Rail

Right after the National Day holiday, as tourist numbers dropped, flight prices fell noticeably, making it an excellent time for off-peak travel.

Data from online travel booking platforms shows that from October 10 to October 31, the average payment price for flights dropped by more than 30% compared to the National Day holiday period.

On many routes, flight prices are now lower than high-speed rail fares.

A search reveals that within the past week, base ticket prices for flights departing from Beijing to Lanzhou, Quanzhou, and Urumqi; from Shanghai to Lijiang and Shenyang; and from Guangzhou to Qingdao and Chengdu were all around 200 to 300 yuan.

Flight prices to several popular autumn travel destinations fell sharply, with the base fare for a Shanghai to Ordos flight on October 17 priced at 492 yuan, and a Beijing to Altay flight on October 27 priced at 570 yuan.

Meanwhile, international flight prices have also seen a clear plunge.

A search shows that low-priced inbound and outbound tickets are available from multiple cities.

For example, in the past week, the lowest fare from Beijing to Seoul was just over 500 yuan, while flights from Chengdu to Bangkok and Guangzhou to Kuala Lumpur had base fares as low as just over 300 yuan.

In addition, at many destinations that were highly popular during the holiday, average hotel prices have also dropped by about 20% compared to the National Day period.

Shi Ke, a researcher at the Qunar Big Data Research Institute, said: During the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays, travel interest in regions like Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai-Gansu, and western Sichuan was extremely high.

After the holiday, both hotel and flight prices have fallen significantly, improving overall value for money.

At many mid-to-high-end hotels in places like Altay in Xinjiang and Shigatse in Tibet, average prices have dropped to as low as 300 yuan, while luxury hotels in Garze, Sichuan still had rooms available for just over 200 yuan in late October.

Departing after the holiday allows travelers to avoid crowds and enjoy their trip at a more affordable cost, making it a high-quality choice for off-peak travel.

One special reminder: although low-priced flights and hotels are affordable, they usually come with relatively strict cancellation and change policies.

Travelers should pay close attention to cancellation and change rules, baggage allowances, flight schedules, and weather changes at their destination before booking, so that bargain hunting does not ruin their travel experience.
