Hinge Health has recently announced the expansion of its HingeSelect product to incorporate orthopedic surgery, thereby offering a full-spectrum musculoskeletal (MSK) care service that covers physical therapy, specialist assessments, imaging, non-surgical treatments, prehabilitation, surgery, and post-operative recovery.
Data shows that surgical procedures account for approximately half of total MSK costs, with an orthopedic surgery occurring every few seconds in the United States. However, research indicates that up to half of these surgeries may not be medically necessary. Historically, few single care teams have been able to simultaneously manage conservative treatment, confirm surgical necessity, and coordinate the surgical and post-operative recovery process.
Daniel Perez, Co-founder and CEO of Hinge Health, Inc. (HNGE), stated that the company spent 11 years building a clinically validated digital MSK solution, but clients frequently asked, "What if a member needs surgery?" That question now has an answer, as the company provides an end-to-end MSK solution covering the entire care journey.
Through the expanded HingeSelect service, members start with first-line treatment and an orthopedic assessment to determine if surgery is appropriate. When surgery is indeed necessary, Hinge Health supports the entire process from pre-operation through recovery, connecting members with high-quality surgeons via the HingeSelect network.
This expansion is expected to deliver three core benefits: First, appropriate care from start to finish provided by in-house orthopedic specialists, the flagship digital care product, and an in-person network. Second, personalized perioperative physical therapy, combining digital and in-person methods, has been shown to reduce post-operative complications by 21%. Third, the quality care services offered through the HingeSelect network come at a cost 30% to 50% lower than standard rates.
The HingeSelect network currently includes over 4,100 service points and is still growing. Compared to commercial benchmarks, the platform has reduced imaging and surgical utilization rates by more than 60%. Katie Kirkland, Director of Benefits and Well-being at Southern Company, noted that in the past, employers typically pieced together two or three solutions and hoped they would work together, whereas Hinge Health has created a seamless, complete solution.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Hinge Health is dedicated to scaling and automating the delivery of medical care through an AI-driven care model, wearable devices, and a professional clinical team. The company is publicly listed on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol HNGE.
