In Yongnian District of Handan City, a precision seeder is actively engaged in sowing corn.
"This year, we have exclusively selected high-density, high-yield corn varieties, paired with Beidou navigation and simultaneous seed-and-fertilizer broadcasting technology. This allows us to control the spacing between plants and rows with absolute precision," said Wang Pengfei, a major grain grower, squatting beside a newly sown ridge. He gently parted the soil layer to check the sowing depth, adding with delight, "This precision seeding model also significantly saves on seed and fertilizer usage, reducing planting costs."
According to Zhang Jianying, head of the Agricultural Resources Unit at the Yongnian District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, the summer corn planting work across the district is nearing completion. The core promotion for this summer sowing is the "One Increase, Four Improvements" standardized technology: moderately increasing planting density, selecting superior varieties that are dense-tolerant, lodging-resistant, and pest-resistant, matching them with high-performance precision seeding machinery, and upgrading from traditional flood irrigation to an integrated drip irrigation water-fertilizer system.
On over a thousand acres of wheat fields managed by the Chengzhi Agricultural Planting Professional Cooperative in Wangdu County, Baoding City, the summer harvest had just concluded. Several corn planters shuttled back and forth across the leveled plots, advancing at a steady pace to carry out precision seeding for summer corn in an orderly manner.
"This year, we are using mechanized precision seeding technology throughout the entire process, ensuring uniform seed placement and consistent sowing depth control," said Men Hongbin, the cooperative's director, watching the continuously operating agricultural machinery. "County agricultural technicians have provided hands-on guidance and explained key management points, giving us greater confidence in cultivating a good autumn grain harvest."
To ensure the smooth progress of summer planting, Wangdu County in Baoding City has organized agricultural technicians to go deep into the fields of various villages. They provide on-site explanations to farmers on practical planting techniques such as selecting improved seeds, scientific fertilizer blending, and field management, offering real-time answers to questions.
Wang Jianwei, an agricultural technology extension researcher at the Wangdu County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, stated that they will continue to closely monitor the seedling management of corn, precisely implement water and fertilizer regulation, and promote green pest and disease control. Multiple measures will be taken to safeguard the stable production and increased yield of autumn grains.
On a plot in Beihan Village, Dongliman Town, Raoyang County, Hengshui City, where wheat harvesting had just finished, corn seeding machinery shuttled back and forth, advancing standardized summer planting operations in an orderly manner. A specially set up mobile charging station at the edge of the field was particularly noticeable, providing convenience for the busy farmers.
"With the mobile charging station set up in the field, we can charge agricultural machinery batteries and our mobile phones anytime, which has really boosted our work efficiency," said Peng Shuzhuang, a villager operating equipment to sow summer corn in the field.
Sun Chenguang, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, emphasized that Hebei Province is further detailing summer planting tasks for various regions. It is organizing all areas to seize the critical agricultural timing and plant as much as possible. The province will continue to implement actions for large-scale yield improvement of major grain and oil crops, apply key technologies, and provide meticulous and precise guidance services tailored to different regions, crops, and types. The aim is to improve sowing quality, ensure uniform, consistent, and robust seedlings, and lay a solid foundation for a bumper harvest.
