On August 7, the Zhanjiang Agricultural Technology Promotion Center was bustling with activity as enterprise representatives and academic experts from across Guangdong province gathered for a major event. The showcase featured a wide array of local agricultural innovations, including peanuts and sweet potatoes in various colors, a hydrating mask developed from seawater pearls, a high-end perfume crafted from pandan leaves, and a preservative material made from crab shells. These products became the center of attention, demonstrating the depth of Zhanjiang's agricultural research.

This was the scene at the Zhanjiang City Agricultural Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Matchmaking Conference and the unveiling ceremony for the offline platform of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket. To strengthen agricultural science and technology support, boost the transformation and application of research outcomes, and drive Zhanjiang's agriculture towards leapfrog and high-quality development, the Zhanjiang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs implemented the provincial party committee's "1310" specific deployment. It deepened the innovation-driven development strategy by partnering with China Telecom Zhanjiang Branch and the Municipal Agricultural Technology Promotion Center to host this tech-filled agricultural event.

The event brought together leaders from the Zhanjiang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Zhanjiang Marine and Agricultural Investment Group Co., Ltd., and China Telecom Co., Ltd. Zhanjiang Branch, along with key figures from research institutes such as the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guangdong Ocean University, and Lingnan Normal University, as well as relevant enterprise representatives. They collectively offered insights and suggestions for building a platform for the transformation of agricultural research results, opening channels for farmers, agricultural enterprises, experts, technology, and improved seed varieties.

The Offline Agricultural Service 'Supermarket' Opens for Business

Allowing research results from the laboratory to truly take root at the grassroots level, strengthening the connection between supply and demand for scientific and technological achievements was the core mission running through the entire event. During the conference, representatives from various enterprises, colleges, and research institutions took to the stage to share their latest research findings related to Zhanjiang's agricultural upgrade. They exchanged practical experiences in technology development and industrial integration, exploring new opportunities for cooperation through mutual learning.

Feng Zhongzhi, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Zhanjiang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, noted that Zhanjiang has consistently strengthened its agricultural development foundation, achieving remarkable results in platform building, enhancing agricultural technology services, solidifying the "seed industry chip," and upgrading industries. However, while progress has been made in transforming agricultural science and technology achievements, challenges remain, such as insufficiently precise matching between research results and industrial needs, an incomplete transformation chain, and the need for improved efficiency in implementing some outcomes. This is precisely why the offline platform of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket was created.

Last December, the online platform of the Zhanjiang Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket was officially launched. Over the past year, the platform has cumulatively published 285 agricultural science and technology achievements, logged 322 agricultural research and innovation experts, collected 15 technical demands from enterprises, received over 52,000 visits, and provided 1,800 intelligent Q&A services for business entities. This has effectively brought laboratory results to the fields and production lines. At this event, representatives from all parties jointly unveiled and officially launched the offline platform of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket, further strengthening the channels for matching. This ensures that technology can be found, experts can be contacted, and demands receive responses. Today, the diverse array of tropical fruits and technological achievements on display are no longer just exhibits; they are genuinely wealth-increasing products that can serve the needs of farmers and enterprises.

Mo Zhigui, Director of the Zhanjiang Municipal Party Committee Agricultural Affairs Office, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Director of the Municipal Rural Revitalization Bureau, stated that the establishment and operation of the online and offline "dual platforms" of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket mark the effective construction of Zhanjiang's agricultural science and technology service system. This has cleared the "last mile" for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, achieving a key leap in service capacity from "cloud-based empowerment" to "rooting at the grassroots." It is understood that the online platform, now operational, has integrated dual AI models, including DeepSeek and the Shennong No.1 model, and incorporates six core functions such as results inquiry, demand matching, and intelligent Q&A to achieve smart services.

With the formation of the "online + offline" integrated matrix of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket, the offline platform, distinct from online mini-programs and apps, is equipped with six major functional zones. These include a results display area, a results trading area, a technical consultation area, an information release area, a training area, and a science and technology commissioner workstation. This creates a comprehensive offline service complex integrating results display, technology trading, consultation and training, and on-site guidance. Agricultural enterprises can find technology partners here, farmers can receive face-to-face technical guidance, and researchers can learn about front-line production needs.

Seven Cooperation Projects Signed On-Site

Precisely connecting research results with industry demands, at the matchmaking meeting, over a dozen units, enterprises, universities, and research institutes signed seven on-site contracts for industry-university-research and agricultural science and technology cooperation projects. These covered key areas such as agricultural digitalization, rice breeding, cultivation and preservation of specialty fruits and vegetables, and deep processing of aquatic products. Taking the opportunity of the offline platform launch and the signing of agreements, Mo Zhigui further elaborated on the expectations for the online and offline platforms of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket.

First, the unique advantages of the offline platform for face-to-face, hands-on services must be fully utilized, with regular technical consultations, skills training, and on-site guidance. Focusing on Zhanjiang's "three economies"—the seed industry economy, tropical crop economy, and winter planting economy—as well as the "five agricultures"—premium agriculture, brand agriculture, scale agriculture, smart agriculture, and leisure agriculture—regular activities such as technology roadshows, skills training, and field classrooms should be conducted. This will allow agricultural business entities to find experts, learn techniques, and solve problems right at their doorstep.

Second, the connection between supply and demand must be smoothed. The online and offline platforms should coordinate their efforts, relying on the "four databases"—the agricultural science and technology achievements database, the enterprise demand database, the expert database, and the results promotion talent database. This will enable precise profiling, intelligent matching, and dynamic updating of scientific and technological supply and production demand. A rapid response mechanism linking online and offline should be established, achieving "instant upload of demand, rapid implementation of service, and widespread diffusion of results." This will allow researchers to directly confront industry pain points and business entities to access cutting-edge technologies, truly opening the transformation channel from the laboratory to the field, and allowing the transformation of agricultural science and technology achievements to achieve "Zhanjiang speed."

Third, the establishment and improvement of the "four mechanisms"—the regular release mechanism, the matching mechanism, the financial support mechanism, and the innovation incentive mechanism—must be accelerated. Efforts should be actively made to promote deep cooperation models between research institutes, universities, and enterprises that share benefits and risks. This will ensure that research forces "sink down," industry demands "rise up," and cooperation projects "stand firm." Relevant departments should strengthen policy coordination and incentive guarantees, ensuring that innovative talents are rewarded, innovative enterprises gain profits, and innovative results have a market, thereby promoting the vigorous development of new agricultural productive forces in Zhanjiang and injecting new momentum into the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas.

It is reported that the "online platform" of the Agricultural Science and Technology Service Supermarket is supported by information technology from China Telecom Zhanjiang Branch. Based on this cooperation framework, the future will see continued efforts with the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, focusing on the goals of "unblocking bottlenecks, activating vitality, and cultivating new productive forces." This will further solidify the "hard support" for technical services and drive new breakthroughs in the transformation of agricultural science and technology achievements. The functions of "one-click query, one-click release, and one-click booking" will be further improved, and information on policy interpretation, market conditions, and field management will be regularly updated, enabling dynamic perception and intelligent matching of results and demands. This will make the online supermarket a never-ending matchmaking event and the mobile platform a 24-hour online agricultural technician.
