Health is the strongest foundation for a happy old age. In March this year, Shanghai officially launched a welfare policy for senior health management, with the annual free health check-up service for the city's elderly fully initiated and actively underway.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, as of now, the number of elderly people in the city who have received free health checks has exceeded 1.3 million. Leveraging comprehensive community medical resources, 246 community health service centers in Shanghai continue to provide precise, free, and convenient health screenings and exclusive health guidance for the elderly, carefully safeguarding the well-being of every senior citizen.

The current elderly health check-up strictly adheres to the National Basic Public Health Service Standards (Third Edition) and is open to all permanent elderly residents aged 65 and above in the city, regardless of household registration. All eligible seniors living in Shanghai can enjoy one free standardized health check-up service each year, effectively achieving early screening, early detection, early intervention, and early care for elderly health.

The free check-up items cover the core health needs of the elderly, completing several key examinations in one stop. This mainly includes a comprehensive assessment of lifestyle and health status, routine physical examination, blood pressure and vision tests, basic lab tests such as complete blood count, liver and kidney function, blood lipids, blood sugar, and urine routine. It also includes imaging screenings like electrocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen), and chest digital examination.

On the basis of routine check-up items, special services such as enhanced chronic disease management for the elderly, cognitive risk screening, and traditional Chinese medicine health guidance are strengthened. These services comprehensively cover high-frequency health issues for the elderly, fill the gaps in elderly health management, and build a full-dimensional health protection barrier for the silver-haired population.

All check-ups are conducted by experienced community medical teams and family doctors who follow through from start to finish. After the check-up, one-on-one professional report interpretation is provided, offering personalized health guidance, medication recommendations, and follow-up plans for abnormal test results, chronic diseases, and daily health habits. If an elderly person has already completed a check-up at another medical institution this year, they can bring the report to their local community health service center. The family doctor will then provide free report interpretation, health assessment, and exclusive health guidance, continuously following up on the elderly person's health management.

Here is a warm reminder: elderly friends and their families should pay close attention to notifications from community health service centers and proactively make appointments to participate in the check-up. Regular check-ups are not a cumbersome process but the first line of defense for protecting health in old age.
