Chime Financial, Inc. is cutting approximately 10% of its workforce, impacting around 150 employees, as the company adapts to operational efficiency gains driven by artificial intelligence. In a memo to staff, CEO Chris Britt stated that "AI is changing what's possible, but it also requires new skills." Britt emphasized the need for continuous evolution to stay ahead in the industry, noting that the current priority is to build a flatter organizational structure and a leaner team.

The company also plans to bring more teams back to the office, as close collaboration is believed to foster the best innovation and decision-making. This move aligns with a broader trend among U.S. companies to "stay lean," with many large firms freezing hiring or reducing team sizes as AI technology gradually replaces some roles.

Despite the cost-cutting measures, market expectations for the company's performance remain positive. Chime Financial, Inc. is scheduled to report earnings on August 5, with analysts forecasting a 21.3% year-over-year revenue increase to $640 million. Although the company remains unprofitable overall, several institutions have issued "buy" ratings, with average price targets ranging from $29.19 to $30.10. Previous first-quarter results showed a 24.8% year-over-year revenue increase and better-than-expected earnings per share.
