DeepSeek, the Chinese artificial intelligence startup, is reportedly planning to build a large-scale AI data center in Inner Mongolia, adding approximately 1 gigawatt (GW) of computing power. This move signals the company's aggressive investment in computing infrastructure, aiming to rival leading players in Silicon Valley.

The facility is expected to be located in the city of Ulanqab, roughly 350 kilometers northwest of Beijing. Beyond constructing its own data center, DeepSeek also intends to lease additional computing capacity from other companies. According to reports, over 10 enterprises have already planned projects in the same city.

Insiders have indicated that DeepSeek hopes to have at least part of the data center's computing power operational by the end of 2027 or early 2028. However, the company has not disclosed what chips will be used for the project.
