Genscript Biotech (01548) shares surged nearly 9%, trading at HK$26.32 as of press time, with a gain of 8.94% and a turnover of HK$827 million. This uptick follows the release of the third fiscal quarter report by US-based DNA synthesis company Twist, which posted revenue of $118 million, a 23% year-over-year increase, marking its 14th consecutive quarter of growth. During the earnings call, Twist CEO and co-founder Emily Leproust noted that demand across the company's DNA synthesis, protein solutions, and next-generation sequencing businesses drove the performance, with AI-driven drug discovery emerging as a key growth catalyst.
China Post Securities highlighted ongoing progress in AI-powered drug development, noting that Twist's strong growth validates the DBTL (Design-Build-Test-Learn) cycle and suggesting opportunities in the industry chain. Guolian Minsheng Securities pointed out that Genscript is expanding from a leader in gene synthesis to an integrated "gene-to-protein" validation platform, with AI demand already contributing to increased business volume. The growth in AI-driven drug development and multi-antibody drug demand is fueling rapid expansion of the gene-to-protein segment. In 2025, the life sciences group posted revenue of $522 million, a 14.8% increase year-over-year, while continuing to scale up automated and digital production capabilities. The integrated protein expression service revenue grew by about 50% year-over-year in 2025, with orders funneled from gene synthesis to the protein expression platform surging by 160%.
