On March 25, at the main forum of the 2026 Global South Financiers Summit, Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China Lu Lei stated that the central bank encourages and supports financial institutions to engage in green and low-carbon investments in Belt and Road partner countries and regions. He also welcomed global investors, particularly enterprises and financial institutions from developing nations, to participate in China’s green and low-carbon transition, fostering shared development and mutual benefits.
Lu Lei mentioned that in June 2025, the People's Bank of China led the release of the "Green Finance Support Project Catalog (2025 Edition)," which established unified standards for defining various green financial products, excluding IPOs. Additionally, efforts are actively underway to develop pilot standards for blue finance and climate adaptation finance.
By the end of 2025, China’s outstanding green loans reached 44.8 trillion yuan, and cumulative green bond issuance amounted to 5.2 trillion yuan, both ranking among the highest globally. Financial products such as sustainability-linked loans, carbon-neutral bonds, and transition bonds are also becoming increasingly diverse.
