Four Missing After Hillside Collapses in Yunnan

Two hillside collapses occurred on August 23 in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, leaving four people missing.

The Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster defense response for Yunnan at 2:00 PM on August 23 and dispatched a working group to the site to guide rescue and relief operations.

The ministry has instructed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately dispatch an expert working group to the scene to assist local authorities with personnel search and rescue, as well as technical support during emergency operations. It also called for learning from the incident to strengthen geological hazard inspections, monitoring, early warning, and preventive measures under similar circumstances.

The China Geological Survey and the Geological Disaster Technical Guidance Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources have been tasked with enhancing expert coordination, organizational support, and consultation and assessment efforts to fully assist and guide technical support work.
