CNMC Goldmine's stock price fell sharply by 3.52% during intraday trading on Thursday, as investors reacted to news of proposed higher royalty rates for the company's operations in Malaysia.
The decline follows the company's announcement that it received a circular from the Kelantan State Land and Mines Office proposing increased royalty rates effective from January 1, 2026. According to the notification, the royalty on gold would rise to 15% from the current 10%, while the levy on silver would increase to 12% from 10%.
CNMC Goldmine stated that its legal advisers believe such changes require publication in the state's official gazette to take legal effect, and the company has not yet received such publication. The miner is assessing the impact of the proposed increases and is working with stakeholders to submit an appeal against the higher rates.
