Clinical-stage biopharmaceutical firm GH Research released its first-quarter 2026 financial results on Thursday. The company's net loss widened significantly compared to the same period last year, primarily due to increased research and development as well as administrative expenses. The Chief Executive Officer reiterated in the report the advancement plans for the core pipeline candidate GH001.
Key Financial Data The report indicates that the company's net loss for the first quarter was $18.97 million, equivalent to a loss per share of $0.31, exceeding the market expectation of a $0.26 loss per share. For comparison, the net loss in the same period last year was $10.81 million, or $0.23 per share. The primary reasons for the expanded loss were an increase in research and development expenses from $7.31 million to $12.38 million year-over-year, alongside a rise in general and administrative expenses from $6.25 million to $6.37 million.
The company's CEO, Velichka Valcheva, stated in the financial report that during the first quarter of 2026, the company is progressing as planned with the global Phase 3 pivotal program for GH001.
Pipeline Development Progress GH001 is the company's proprietary inhaled formulation of 5-MeO-DMT, intended for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. The company previously announced that its Phase 2b clinical trial met the primary endpoint, demonstrating an average reduction of 15.5 points on the MADRS scale from baseline at Day 8 compared to placebo. The company plans to initiate a global Phase 3 pivotal program in 2026.
Additionally, the company is advancing the development of its GH002 intravenous formulation. In April of this year, GH Research welcomed the White House's Executive Order on Accelerating Treatments for Serious Mental Illness, which aims to promote the development of novel therapies, including innovative psychedelic-based treatments.
Upcoming Clinical and Financing Plans On the same day, the company announced it had entered into an "at-the-market" equity offering sales agreement with Stifel, providing flexible funding support for its ongoing research and development. GH Research also published an updated investor presentation on its corporate website. As of the end of the quarter, the company's cash position is sufficient to support the clinical development of its core pipeline.
