The Tarim Oilfield of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) announced that its cumulative natural gas supply to central and eastern regions of China has exceeded 400 billion cubic meters.
This major source for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline, located in southern Xinjiang, has now supplied a total of 400.03394 billion cubic meters.
This supply provides a solid foundation for the production and domestic gas consumption of nearly 500 million people across 15 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, as well as over 120 large and medium-sized cities in downstream areas.
According to calculations by the Tarim Oilfield, 400 billion cubic meters of natural gas is equivalent to replacing approximately 510 million tons of standard coal.
This substitution has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 520 million tons, equaling the annual carbon sequestration of approximately 75 million hectares of forest.
This area is akin to creating a continuous, giant forest twice the size of the Yangtze River Delta region.
To meet the growing natural gas demand in downstream provinces and cities, the Tarim Oilfield has implemented various measures in recent years to enhance the supply capacity of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline through methods such as refined development.
The Kela 2 gas field, known as the "First Source of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline," has overcome the development limits of conventional strong water-drive gas reservoirs.
It has achieved high-quality development throughout its lifecycle, resulting in seven high-yield gas wells with cumulative production exceeding 10 billion cubic meters each.
This has formed China's largest cluster of high-yield gas wells with individual outputs over 10 billion cubic meters.
The field maintains the record for the highest average single-well production rate in China, further solidifying the robust supply foundation for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline.
