Gansu Province's new silage corn variety has achieved a record-breaking yield at the outset of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
Recently, a field observation and yield measurement event for the "Kenkeyu 1321" silage corn harvest, hosted by Gansu State Farms Yasheng Seed Industry Group Co., Ltd., was held at the demonstration base in Jinchuan District, Jinchang City. According to on-site actual harvest measurements, this variety demonstrated exceptional planting performance on gobi oasis plots, leveraging its outstanding advantages of super-strong disease resistance, ultra-high yield, and excellent stay-green characteristics, laying a solid variety foundation for the quality and efficiency improvement of the province's silage corn industry and the high-quality development of circular planting and breeding.
The yield measurement was conducted through on-site mechanical harvesting by an expert group composed of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Provincial Seed Station, and the Provincial Agricultural Technology Extension Station, with an average yield of 5.78 tons per mu, far exceeding the regional average yield level for silage corn. At the measurement site, the "Kenkeyu 1321" corn displayed green stalks and leaves, robust plant architecture, and outstanding stay-green performance, fully demonstrating the variety's excellent stress resistance.
"Kenkeyu 1321" is a high-quality new silage corn variety independently bred by Gansu Yasheng Seed Industry Group Co., Ltd. It passed the review of the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2025 and features high yield, drought tolerance, and density tolerance. It is highly resistant to stalk rot and moderately resistant to head smut, making it an excellent specialized silage variety suitable for the province's mid-to-late maturing spring corn planting areas.
Testing by the Agricultural Testing Center of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences confirmed that this variety meets the "double 33" standard for both dry matter and starch, with excellent silage quality, high feed conversion rate, and good palatability. It can provide ample high-quality forage for livestock and poultry breeding, effectively enhancing breeding efficiency.
During nearly two years of demonstration and promotion, this variety has achieved an average yield of 5.5 tons per mu as silage corn. With moderate plant height and ear position, a growth period adapted to local farming seasons, simple field management, and high planting fault tolerance, it has been highly favored by the vast number of growers.
