Fuel Price Alert: Upcoming Adjustment Poised to Reach Record Levels

As of August 22, only six days remain before the 17th refined oil product pricing adjustment window of 2026, which is scheduled to take effect at midnight on August 28. The current pricing cycle has reached its midpoint, with five working days of statistics now completed. Since the commencement of this pricing period on August 17, expectations for an increase have steadily climbed, and the market has now entered a significant upward adjustment range, making it highly likely that this will mark the 11th fuel price hike this year.

According to current institutional calculations, gasoline and diesel prices are projected to rise by 360 yuan per tonne and 345 yuan per tonne, respectively. When converted to retail prices at the pump, this translates to an expected increase of approximately 0.29 yuan per litre for 92-octane gasoline, 0.31 yuan per litre for 95-octane gasoline, and 0.30 yuan per litre for 0-diesel. Market forecasts suggest that after the next statistical working day, the upward adjustment could surpass 400 yuan per tonne, potentially pushing the per-litre increase for 92-octane gasoline directly past the 0.3 yuan threshold.

Until the adjustment is officially implemented on August 28, domestic fuel prices will remain at their current levels. As a reference, the current national average prices are as follows: 92-octane gasoline at 7.77 yuan per litre, 95-octane gasoline at 8.29 yuan per litre, and 0-diesel at 7.42 yuan per litre.
