Base metals on the London Metal Exchange ended with mixed results at the close of trading on August 13.

Three-month copper settled at $14,135.50 per metric ton, up $26.00, or 0.18%, from the previous session's close. Three-month aluminum finished at $3,238.00 per metric ton, falling $75.50, or 2.28%, from the prior day's closing price. Three-month nickel ended at $16,760.00 per metric ton, declining $130.00, or 0.77%, compared to the previous close. Three-month lead closed at $1,890.50 per metric ton, dropping $11.50, or 0.60%, from the prior session. Three-month tin settled at $55,825.00 per metric ton, advancing $290.00, or 0.52%, from the previous day's close. Three-month zinc finished at $3,745.00 per metric ton, unchanged from the prior session's closing price.

The U.S. July CPI data came in moderate, reducing expectations for a September interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, which weighed on the U.S. dollar index. Meanwhile, negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz stalled, with both sides introducing new conditions, keeping geopolitical uncertainty elevated and suppressing risk appetite. Against this backdrop, base metals on the London Metal Exchange closed mixed on August 13.
