Bank of Queensland Ltd's stock soared 5.00% during intraday trading on Tuesday, following the announcement of a strategic capital partnership with Challenger that includes significant financial benefits for the company and its shareholders.
The bank announced a A$3.7 billion whole-of-loan sale as part of the partnership, which is expected to result in approximately A$3.4 billion in debt reduction, strengthening the company's balance sheet. Additionally, the bank plans to return around A$300 million to shareholders through an on-market share buyback and a fully franked special dividend, subject to necessary approvals.
The strategic partnership is anticipated to be both return on equity (ROE) and earnings per share (EPS) accretive, with an expected FY26 cash ROE uplift of 15-25 basis points. The deal is expected to complete by the end of May 2026, providing clear near-term catalysts for investor optimism.
