Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd (Taiwan: 2317), the largest assembler of Apple Inc. devices and parent of Foxconn, delivered a robust second-quarter performance, underscoring sustained global demand for AI hardware.

On August 12, the latest financial data showed that Hon Hai posted a second-quarter net profit of TWD 59.97 billion, a 35% surge year-on-year. Revenue reached TWD 2.53 trillion, jumping 41% from a year ago and exceeding the market estimate of TWD 2.41 trillion.

Meanwhile, July alone saw revenue leap 54.2% year-on-year to TWD 946.5 billion, setting a record high and surpassing the average market forecast of roughly 32% growth for the quarter.

Where to begin

Hon Hai stated that the momentum of AI rack shipments is expected to continue into the current quarter, while information and communication technology products are entering a peak season. This statement has reinforced external optimism about the company's third-quarter performance.

Earlier, robust earnings reports and positive guidance from Super Micro Computer and AI computing provider CoreWeave Inc. had already eased some market concerns about overheated AI investment and potential overcapacity.

The financial report also revealed that cumulative revenue for the first half of the year reached TWD 4.65 trillion, a 35% year-on-year increase. Net profit stood at TWD 109.9 billion, up 27% from a year earlier, while operating profit surpassed TWD 170.45 billion, a 65% year-on-year gain. Earnings per share rose to TWD 7.84 from TWD 6.23 in the same period last year.

Key driver from AI server demand, cloud and network lead in July

Hon Hai’s performance has become a key barometer for global AI hardware demand. As a major server production partner for Nvidia Corp., Hon Hai is deeply tied to the AI data center buildout, as Nvidia’s chips have become the mainstream choice for most data centers.

Bloomberg analysts Steven Tseng and Rebecca Wang noted that the 54% revenue growth in July was led by the cloud and network segment, with the core momentum coming from strong AI rack demand. This indicates that the growth trend is extending beyond the single AI track into broader areas, further solidifying market expectations for over 30% sales growth in the third quarter.

On the AI infrastructure investment front, the four major data center players—Alphabet Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Microsoft Corp., and Amazon.com Inc.—have committed to spending nearly USD 2.4 trillion on AI-related expenditures over the next several years, providing sustained strong order support for upstream hardware suppliers.

Beyond AI, Hon Hai also benefits from stable growth in the Apple smartphone market. As the primary contract manufacturer for iPhones, Hon Hai operates phone assembly plants in both China and India, securing a central position in the global supply chain.

Bloomberg analysts pointed out that the consumer electronics and computing products segment also showed strong growth in July, driven by the release of seasonal order momentum and higher selling prices for new iPhones and computing products. With the new product launch cycle approaching, this segment is expected to provide additional support for Hon Hai’s performance in the second half of the year.

Q2 revenue and profit exceed expectations across the board

Hon Hai’s second-quarter revenue of TWD 2.53 trillion not only grew 41% year-on-year, accelerating from the 35% growth rate in the first half, but also suggests that the economic cycle for the second half is accelerating.

More noteworthy is the profit-side resilience. Hon Hai’s second-quarter operating profit reached TWD 94.8 billion, a 68% year-on-year increase, far exceeding the market estimate of TWD 80.53 billion. This indicates that while expanding its scale, Hon Hai is simultaneously improving operational efficiency and profit quality.

This also suggests that the company is enjoying the profit leverage from economies of scale, with a key driver being the rising share of high-margin AI server product mix.

The company also provided positive forward guidance, expecting third-quarter revenue to continue to grow year-on-year and maintaining its forecast for fiscal 2026 revenue growth.

Hon Hai management clearly stated in the financial report that AI infrastructure is driving the company’s performance growth and holds a “strong” view on the outlook for AI servers.

The company also expects that third-quarter revenue from components and other products will see significant year-on-year growth. This statement suggests that order visibility for AI server-related components is already quite clear, providing strong support for continued performance improvement in the second half of the year.
