Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone Launches First GMS International Transport Route to Thailand

The first GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) international road transport vehicle, carrying steamed frozen vegetable products, departed from the "Silk Road E-commerce" comprehensive service base in the Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone (SCODA) under the on-site supervision of Jiaozhou Customs, a branch of Qingdao Customs. This marks the official launch of the SCODA-to-Thailand GMS international transport route.

This is the second GMS route opened by the SCODA within a month, following the inaugural route to Vientiane, Laos. GMS cross-border transport offers the unique advantage of "one certificate for passage through six countries," allowing vehicles with a GMS certificate to travel smoothly across China, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Within a one-year validity period, it eliminates the need for multiple transshipments and container changes, truly achieving "one-time entrustment, one document for the entire journey, and direct container delivery."

The exported goods on that day came from Qingdao Yingjia Food Co., Ltd. A company representative noted that previously, exports to Southeast Asia primarily relied on sea freight, which not only had long lead times but also risked cargo damage during lifting and container changes. With the GMS route, goods are sealed once and shipped in original containers, reaching Southeast Asia in about seven days. This significantly reduces transportation costs and improves logistics turnover efficiency, providing strong support for the company's expansion into Southeast Asian markets.

"To ensure the smooth launch of the SCODA-to-Thailand GMS route, we coordinated with the company's transport needs in advance, assisted them in reviewing the customs declaration process, and determined the supervision plan," said Song Tao, Deputy Director of Jiaozhou Customs. The customs office also set up a dedicated fast-track clearance window, offering "7×24 hour" appointment-based clearance services and dynamically tracking vehicle progress to ensure smooth cargo departure.

Currently, the SCODA has established a flexible and efficient road cross-border freight system through the "TIR+GMS" dual-channel coordination. As of now, the SCODA has opened two GMS international transport routes and six TIR international road transport routes, reaching countries such as Laos, Thailand, Russia, and Azerbaijan. Since the start of this year, 231 vehicle trips have been dispatched, with a total cargo value of 210 million yuan.
