China's elderly care consumption subsidy program for seniors with moderate to severe disabilities has generated nearly 30 billion yuan in spending, according to data released at the Ministry of Civil Affairs' third-quarter regular press conference.
Since the program's launch, the country has processed a total of 10.7992 million subsidy redemptions, with verified amounts reaching 6.512 billion yuan. This has spurred 29.093 billion yuan in elderly care consumption, benefiting over 1.9986 million disabled seniors.
Regarding aging-related work, Li Wanli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Civil Affairs and deputy director of the General Office (Department of International Cooperation), stated that in the second quarter, 12 departments jointly issued a notice to launch a series of activities aimed at enriching the spiritual and cultural lives of the elderly. These activities, themed "Joyful Silver Age," focus on physical and mental well-being, talent showcases, and health promotion.
A national conference on population aging education and grassroots elderly association construction was also held. This meeting promoted localized aging education efforts and pushed for the standardized development of grassroots elderly associations. Additionally, the ministry continued to create national model elderly-friendly communities and launched a campaign to collect exemplary cases of elderly-friendly community construction, aiming to enhance urban and rural communities' capacity to serve the elderly.
In the area of elderly care service development, the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued guidelines for building a three-tier urban and rural elderly care service network. It also jointly released provisional regulations on the professional qualification system for elderly care workers with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Furthermore, the government is actively promoting mutual-aid elderly care models, including neighborhood assistance, group dining, and pairing support. To date, over 140,000 rural mutual-aid elderly care facilities have been established.
