XPeng's MONA L03 has officially commenced its pre-sale phase. The new vehicle's pre-sale price range is set between 143,800 and 165,800 yuan.
During the launch event, XPeng Inc. (NYSE: XPEV) Chairman He Xiaopeng stated that the L03 is the inaugural SUV model under the MONA series, offering both pure electric and super range-extender powertrain options. The final market launch price is scheduled to be announced on July 16.
According to the company's presentation, the MONA L03 is positioned as an A-segment SUV targeting younger users. Its development focus centers on exterior design, cabin space, intelligent assisted driving capabilities, range and charging efficiency, and safety features.
He Xiaopeng emphasized that the L03 is the first global model from XPeng's MONA series, designed for the international market from its initial research and development phase. Sales are planned to commence this year across 64 countries and regions worldwide.
Design and Styling
The design of the XPeng MONA L03 was led by the company's Vice President of Design, JuanMa Lopez. Addressing prior rumors about Lopez's departure, He Xiaopeng clarified at the event that Lopez has been continuously responsible for design work at XPeng and has not left the company. The L03 marks the first publicly revealed project Lopez has worked on since joining XPeng.
In terms of body design, the MONA L03 features a low-slung, wide-body stance with a fastback silhouette. The officially announced drag coefficient is Cd 0.228. The company notes that the vehicle comes standard with 18-inch low-drag wheels, with 20-inch five-spoke sport wheels available as an option.
The new model offers several body color options including Aurora Purple, New Moon Silver, Midnight Black, Plum Sauce, and Eucalyptus Gray. It utilizes a 3C2B painting process, with the clear coat thickness reportedly about 20% higher than the industry average.
Interior and Cabin Features
For the interior, the XPeng MONA L03 provides color schemes such as Deep Space Gray and Noble Gray. It is equipped with a 15.6-inch central control screen, a sport steering wheel, and ambient lighting.
Information from the launch event indicates the vehicle incorporates a 20-speaker audio system with AI spatial sound capabilities. Furthermore, sound insulation materials cover over 90% of the cabin area, and the thickness of the tempered glass for the front and rear doors is approximately 25% greater than the average for vehicles in its class.
Storage and Utility
The XPeng MONA L03 is equipped with a 102-liter front trunk. The regular rear trunk volume can accommodate six 20-inch suitcases and two travel bags, which can be expanded to 1,640 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
The cabin also offers multiple expansion interfaces, including eight magnetic interfaces, five 1/4-inch standard threaded interfaces, and eight charging ports. The company claims the vehicle supports external discharge with a maximum power output of 6,000 watts.
Intelligent Driving Systems
The MONA L03 offers two levels of assisted driving versions. The Max version features a single Turing chip with an effective computing power of 750 TOPS, while the Ultra SE version is equipped with dual Turing chips delivering an effective computing power of 1,500 TOPS.
He Xiaopeng highlighted that this marks the first time XPeng has brought 1,500 TOPS of on-vehicle computing power to an SUV model in the 150,000-yuan price segment. According to the event details, the L03 Max model will utilize the second-generation VLA distillation version, with OTA updates planned to begin rolling out in the third quarter of this year.
Powertrain and Range
The pure electric version of the MONA L03 offers two range options: 525 kilometers and 625 kilometers (CLTC). Its energy consumption is as low as 11.9 kWh per 100 kilometers, and it achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.6 seconds.
Regarding charging, the new vehicle supports 3C fast charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in 19.1 minutes. The super range-extender version boasts a CLTC comprehensive range of 1,330 kilometers, with a maximum pure electric range of 315 kilometers and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds.
Chassis and Handling
The XPeng MONA L03 utilizes a front MacPherson strut and rear five-link suspension setup, and comes standard with DCC intelligent variable damping shock absorbers. The vehicle's minimum turning radius is 5.25 meters, and the officially announced braking distance is 35.99 meters. Additionally, the L03 comes standard with XPeng's Intelligent Anti-Motion Sickness 2.0 mode.
Safety Specifications
XPeng stated that the MONA L03 was developed according to global vehicle standards, covering requirements for different markets including China, Europe, and Australia. The new model comes standard with seven airbags and incorporates 17 active safety functions.
Launch event information indicates the L03 supports full-scenario tire blowout stability control and a driver incapacitation assistance system. Its Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system operates at speeds up to 150 km/h, while the Automatic Emergency Steering (AES) system functions at speeds up to 130 km/h, with AES capability also supported in low-traction conditions like ice, snow, and wet surfaces.
He Xiaopeng also revealed during the presentation that the global launch event for the MONA L03 will be held in Munich, Germany, on July 16. He reiterated that sales for the L03 will begin this year in 64 countries and regions globally, and future international customers will have the opportunity to see this model in numerous countries.
