General Mills' stock soared 8.81% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, driven by the company's release of better-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter results and a significant new cost savings initiative.

The packaged food giant reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.95 for the quarter, significantly exceeding the Wall Street consensus estimate of $0.80. Quarterly sales of $4.61 billion also topped analyst expectations. The company attributed the strong performance to increased consumer demand for pantry staples and breakfast cereals as more people choose to eat at home.

Looking ahead, General Mills provided fiscal 2027 guidance with adjusted diluted EPS expected in the range of $3.00 to $3.20, which brackets the FactSet consensus estimate of $3.13. Furthermore, the company announced a plan to achieve $3 billion in cumulative cost savings by fiscal 2030, with at least $750 million expected in the coming fiscal year. CEO Jeff Harmening stated that with pricing investments completed, the company's focus is now on improving top-line growth by driving a "step change in the remarkability" of its brands through increased innovation.
