Following a trial period, China Eastern Airlines has officially launched a proactive baggage status notification service on its app as of August 14.

Passengers traveling on China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines flights can now receive real-time push notifications about their checked baggage status at 68 domestic airports, keeping them informed of the baggage handling process. This service represents a significant step in the airline's digital transformation of baggage services, aimed at making the baggage transport process transparent and traceable.

After logging into the China Eastern app and syncing their flight information, passengers who complete baggage check-in at the departure airport will receive proactive push notifications at two key moments: when the baggage is loaded onto the aircraft and when it arrives with the flight. The information includes an "Baggage Loaded Alert" and, as the flight approaches, details such as the "Baggage Claim Carousel Number" and "Destination Baggage Inquiry Contact Information."

Currently, the service covers 68 domestic airports, including Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong, Beijing Daxing, Kunming, Nanchang, Ningbo, Xiamen, Nanjing, Qingdao, Hefei, Wuhan, Xi'an, Taiyuan, Lanzhou, and Chengdu Tianfu.

By shifting from a "passive inquiry" to a "proactive notification" model, China Eastern has completed a digital upgrade to its baggage service, making the entire baggage handling process transparent and visible. For exceptional situations that may arise during baggage transport, the push notifications will also include dedicated contact channels to help passengers quickly reach staff for precise and efficient assistance.

Looking ahead, China Eastern plans to continue advancing digital innovations in baggage services, expand the coverage of this service, and further enrich the scenarios and dimensions of push notifications, aiming to provide passengers with a safe, convenient, and comfortable travel experience.
