Optus reported operating profit of A$550 million for the 12 months ended Mar 31 2026, up 23.1 percent year-on-year, as higher mobile service income and network-sharing fees offset marginally higher costs.

Operating revenue rose 2.1 percent YoY to A$8.35 billion. The company did not declare any dividends in the statement.

Mobile remained the main earnings engine, with revenue in the second half increasing 2.7 percent YoY, helped by a 16,000-subscriber net addition that included 67,000 prepaid users under the amaysim brand. Wholesale, enterprise and business fixed lines posted a 4.1 percent rise, while home broadband was broadly flat. Full-year earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) climbed 6.0 percent to A$2.36 billion as operating expenses were broadly unchanged at A$6.13 billion.

The carrier’s performance was partially tempered by lower project-based satellite revenue and a 1.6 percent uptick in second-half operating costs as Optus accelerated spending on network resilience and compliance following the 18 September 2025 outage that disrupted Triple Zero emergency calls.

During FY26 the company invested about A$1.5 billion in networks and IT systems, continued the transition to company-owned retail stores to tighten compliance, and launched “YesGPT,” an enterprise AI assistant, alongside organisation-wide initiatives in process excellence and responsible AI use.

Chief executive officer Stephen Rue said the earnings rebound reflects “a more disciplined business” focused on customer priorities, adding that the group has accepted all 21 recommendations from the independent review into the 2025 outage and is progressing measures such as automated 000 call testing, a dedicated 24/7 emergency-service monitoring team and a streamlined escalation process. Rue noted that Optus will “continue to invest heavily” in 5G expansion, security and network resiliency to underpin growth.

Optus offered no specific financial targets for FY27 but signalled ongoing capital allocation toward strengthening infrastructure and improving customer experience amid a competitive Australian telecommunications market.
