In a targeted push to expand its industrial frontiers, Wuxi has embarked on a series of high-frequency, precisely focused outreach initiatives. Over just one month, the city organized three distinct industry matchmaking events, transforming the broad goal of investment attraction into a concrete monthly action plan. On June 8th, the city went directly to Beijing to host a promotion event for Embodied AI. This was followed by a "Belt and Road" supply-and-procurement matchmaking session in Yiwu on June 29th, and an AI industry cooperation exchange in Hangzhou on July 10th. While each event had a different theme and target, they collectively trace a clear strategic arc: this historic industrial and commercial hub is leveraging proactive and frequent external engagement to orchestrate a profound transformation for "Wuxi Intelligent Manufacturing."
Strategic Alignment: Evolving from a Geographic to a Functional Hub
Traditional urban competition often centers on static advantages: location, natural resources, or policy incentives. However, in the digital era, a city's standing is increasingly defined not just by what it possesses, but by what it can connect to and integrate. Wuxi demonstrates a keen understanding of this shift. At the Beijing promotion event, Wuxi laid out its full industrial portfolio, showcasing 8 industrial parks dedicated to embodied intelligent robotics, 178 key enterprises, and 13 humanoid robot manufacturers. This foundation, combined with its deep-rooted strengths in equipment manufacturing and integrated circuits, presents a compelling industrial landscape with significant technological capacity. "Our goal in attending is to tap into Beijing's intellectual resources and identify top-tier talent for introduction," stated Li Yuping, Vice President of Beijing Aqrose Technology Co., Ltd. The company has already established an "Aqrose Tech AI + Manufacturing R&D Center" in Wuxi and plans further collaboration, including an industrial AI innovation application lab focused on visual AI and factory intelligence systems.
These external engagements aim for more than just resource acquisition. In Yiwu, Wuxi presented its strengths in textile and apparel, light urban industry, and electric two-wheelers to attract buyers from the Middle East, South Asia, and Eastern Europe. In Hangzhou, the focus was on leveraging Wuxi's diverse application scenarios to integrate advanced AI algorithms. The innovative intellect can be sourced from Beijing, global trade channels accessed through Yiwu, and algorithm ecosystems connected in Hangzhou, but it is Wuxi's formidable manufacturing prowess that ultimately closes the value loop, transforming these inputs into tangible products. Historically, its robust manufacturing DNA established Wuxi as a key central city in the Yangtze River Delta. Today, through proactive and targeted outreach, Wuxi is strategically positioning itself on a broader industrial map, actively transforming its innate advantage as a "geographic hub" into the dynamic role of a "functional hub." While the core objective remains promoting industrial capability and urban advantages, these deep, ecosystem-level engagements based on industrial chain synergy are unlocking diverse developmental pathways for Wuxi's intelligent manufacturing sector.
A Qualitative Shift in Role: From Manager to Convener
The tone of Wuxi's outreach activities represents a fundamental shift in approach. "In the past, government officials typically spoke first at such events. Today, as the first guest speaker, I felt the high level of respect Wuxi accords to entrepreneurs," remarked Huang Tao, Vice President of Ego Group, at the Hangzhou exchange. This sentiment resonated with many attending business leaders. The overarching principle is clear: the stage is ceded to enterprises, the market takes the leading role, and the government acts as the "product manager," facilitating connections and setting the platform. This subtle but significant role change naturally garners genuine appreciation from the corporate sector.
"We bring over 20 companies to Wuxi for matchmaking each year on average, and the process often sparks new ideas," shared Chi Dingxi, Assistant to the President of Hangzhou Ego Chanergy Technology. The group has developed four projects in Wuxi, including the Wuxi Ego New Quality Productivity Industrial Park and the Huishan High-tech Zone Ego Science Park, with three already operational. These park carriers serve as bridges for cross-city industrial resources. For instance, a software development startup that initially rented a single office in one park expanded its space twice within a year, now exceeding 500 square meters, thanks to preferential policies and resource linkage services. The team has secured its first round of funding and developed software systems for several Wuxi hospitals. Moving forward, Ego plans to leverage a dual-city linkage mechanism combining "Hangzhou's digital ecosystem with Wuxi's manufacturing prowess" to advance projects like the OPC Innovation Community and an Embodied AI 8S Experience Store, aiding Wuxi in establishing itself as a new highland for AI industry development in the Yangtze River Delta.
Wuxi's effectiveness as a convener is further evidenced in other settings. Before the Yiwu event, the city proactively compiled over 70 overseas procurement demands across sectors like industrial machinery, textiles, and new energy. Using this "demand list," it identified and facilitated face-to-face meetings between matching local suppliers and international buyers. This model of capturing market signals first and then conducting reverse matchmaking—akin to "ordering from a menu based on demand"—proved highly efficient, generating intended procurement deals worth $22 million in a single day.
High-Frequency Dialogue: Reiterating the City's Industrial Brand
Wuxi's investment promotion has always been distinctly industry-centric. The concluded events, whether focused on AI or embodied intelligence, align directly with the key directions of its "465" modern industrial cluster system. This precision, targeting specific segments of the industrial map, has yielded tangible results. The embodied AI promotion event alone saw the concentrated signing of 12 projects involving R&D and key component production, making the city's industrial puzzle more complete.
Beyond the signing figures, perhaps more significant is the subtle reshaping of Wuxi's urban industrial brand. The image is evolving from that of a traditional industrial powerhouse to a potential highland for embodied AI industrialization. Its manufacturing base is leveraging industrial scenario advantages to become a fusion model for "AI + Manufacturing." As a major foreign trade city, it is actively connecting to global channels, positioning itself as an intelligent manufacturing source for direct global procurement. Each high-frequency dialogue with other cities refreshes external perceptions of Wuxi's industrial capabilities, binding the city more deeply to cutting-edge sectors.
This series of high-frequency, high-density engagement activities also allows more enterprises and investors to witness Wuxi's proactive drive. Ge Xinyu, Co-Chief Investment Officer and Executive Committee Member of Junlian Capital, noted that various large AI models developed in Beijing, as an intelligence hub, are well-suited for implementation in Wuxi. Xia Shunxiang, Partner at Shanghai Yonggui Fund, highlighted that Wuxi's manufacturing capability can provide validation for enterprises in Hangzhou and across the Yangtze River Delta. What they recognize is Wuxi's irreplaceable niche within the industrial ecosystem. In an environment rife with external uncertainties, Wuxi is using frequent offline actions to proactively create opportunities, fostering a strong sense of certainty.
A relevant official from the Municipal Commerce Bureau indicated that such matchmaking activities will become a regular practice. Future plans include organizing trips to cities like Wuhan and Xiamen to connect with industries such as optoelectronics and modern services. While the target cities and industrial sectors may change, the steadfast commitment to outward linkage remains constant, forging a boundaryless industrial ecosystem for Wuxi.
