On August 19, according to Volcengine, Tesla Motors has launched the Doubao large language model, with the system update now being pushed to Tesla vehicles in stages.
Starting July 31, Tesla Motors began rolling out the 2026.14.13 software update to its China fleet, covering the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. A key enhancement in this update is the integration of the Doubao AI model, which delivers real-time information and enables smooth, natural conversations with drivers.
Access to this feature requires an active subscription to the premium in-car entertainment service. The collaboration between Tesla Motors and Volcengine was initiated in August 2025. Earlier this year, in April, Tesla Motors had completed the necessary filing in Shanghai for its in-vehicle voice assistant powered by generative AI, paving the way for this official launch.
In overseas markets, Tesla Motors has already equipped certain models with Grok, the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk's xAI. In China, however, Tesla Motors has opted to integrate local large language models such as Doubao to better cater to the domestic market.
