Ningxia Achieves Consecutive New Highs in New Energy Power Generation

On July 4th, the power generation from new energy sources and from photovoltaic sources in the Ningxia power grid both set new historical records, reaching 30.55 million kilowatts and 29.28 million kilowatts respectively.

This marks a new level in the grid's capability for integrating, accommodating, and dispatching new energy.

As the nation's first comprehensive new energy demonstration zone, Ningxia has seen its installed new energy capacity continue to rise, becoming the first province in China where the maximum output and single-day power generation from new energy have exceeded the entire grid's electricity load.

Faced with challenges such as a high proportion of new energy, strong volatility, and significant system regulation pressure, State Grid Ningxia Electric Power Co., Ltd. is focused on building a modernized dispatch system capable of adapting to new energy integration and operation.

The company has strengthened a multi-source collaborative regulation mechanism featuring "thermal power as the base, energy storage for regulation, and new energy for active support" to ensure new energy is generated and consumed to its full potential.

Relying on a digital dispatch platform, the company conducts round-the-clock online monitoring of power plants, energy storage stations, and key transmission sections across the region.

The Automatic Generation Control (AGC) system rapidly responds to output fluctuations, firmly securing the grid's safety baseline under conditions of large-scale new energy integration.

Simultaneously, the company enhances inter-provincial dispatch coordination, making full use of direct current (DC) transmission channels such as Yindong, Lingshao, and Zhongheng (Ningxia Zhongwei to Hunan Hengyang) to collaboratively optimize the organization of DC trading and increase the proportion of new energy electricity transmitted through these channels.

Through a dual effort of local consumption within the region and cross-provincial transmission, the strategy not only safeguards the local electricity demand in Ningxia but also contributes "green power" to the national energy supply security and low-carbon transition.
