Stock Track | Woodside Energy Plummets 5.09% Intraday on Takeover Denial and Oil Price Slide

Woodside Energy Group Ltd (WDS.AU) saw its shares plummet 5.09% during Monday's intraday session. The sharp decline followed the company's official statement denying it was engaged in takeover discussions with U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil, dashing market speculation that had previously fueled a rally.

The sell-off was exacerbated by a broader downturn in energy stocks as oil prices tumbled. Brent crude futures fell to their lowest level since March after the U.S. and Iran announced they had reached an initial peace deal, which is expected to resume oil traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz and lower energy prices.

Woodside's denial came in response to media reports that had identified the Australian LNG exporter as a potential acquisition target for Exxon Mobil, sending its U.S.-listed shares up over 8% on Friday. The combination of the failed takeover narrative and bearish oil market fundamentals triggered the significant intraday drop.
