On July 31, Hang Seng Indexes Company unveiled the Hang Seng Stock Connect AI Infrastructure Index. This tailored benchmark is designed to reflect the performance of Hong Kong-listed companies, tradable under the Stock Connect program, that supply foundational technologies for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. The index covers sectors including semiconductors, electronic equipment, infrastructure and hardware resource providers, and related components.
The selection universe consists of Hang Seng Composite Index constituents and AH companies eligible for cross-border trading under the Stock Connect scheme. Candidate securities must meet a liquidity requirement of a six-month average daily turnover of at least HK$20 million. They are also classified under business subcategories within the Hang Seng Industry Classification System linked to AI infrastructure, such as semiconductors, electrical and electronic components, computers and peripherals, and internet services and infrastructure.
Regarding constituent selection, the index is fixed at 40 components. Existing constituents ranked below 48th will be removed from the index, while non-constituent stocks ranked 32nd or higher will be added. The final number of removals and additions is determined by market capitalisation rankings to maintain a total of 40 constituents. The index is weighted by free-float-adjusted market capitalisation, with a cap of 15% on any single component and a combined cap of 60% for the top five constituents.
The index undergoes a semi-annual review, with data cut-off points at the end of June and December each year, and quarterly rebalancing of weights. The base date is December 30, 2022, with a base value of 3,000. It is denominated in Hong Kong dollars and published in real-time every two seconds. The price index code is .HSSCAII (Refinitiv), while the gross total return index and net total return index codes are .HSSCAIIT and .HSSCAIIN, respectively (Refinitiv).
