Where the project stands now
The Construction Sections No. 7 and No. 8 of the Nanning (Niuwan) to Guigang 3,000-Ton-Class Waterway Project, a key segment of the Xijiang River shipping trunk line, have successfully passed their completion inspections. This marks a significant milestone for the initiative since construction commenced in 2025, laying a solid foundation for the eventual opening of the full route to navigation.
How the inspection was conducted
The acceptance review was organized by the project's construction headquarters and carried out in strict accordance with waterway engineering procedures. An inspection committee was established to review reports from all relevant parties, including a quality testing assessment from an independent third-party survey unit. The committee also meticulously examined construction logs, testing documentation, and quality evaluation records. After thorough evaluation against national waterway quality standards, the committee concluded that both sections fully meet design specifications and that navigational conditions have reached the anticipated levels, officially approving the handover.
Details on the two sections
Located in the upper reaches of the waterway, Section No. 7 spans 3.12 kilometers and Section No. 8 extends 6.212 kilometers. Work on the two sections began on November 10 and October 30, 2025, respectively, with both completing on June 1 and May 27 of the following year.
Since breaking ground, the project headquarters has employed a systematic management approach, refining task objectives, coordinating construction schedules, and maintaining rigorous quality and safety controls to drive steady progress. With the remaining sections now in their final stages, the headquarters has confirmed it will proceed methodically with subsequent inspections and navigational preparations, aiming to achieve full waterway opening as soon as possible to boost regional economic development through enhanced water transport capacity.
