Silicon Industry Association: Market Participants Adopt a Wait-and-See Approach, Monocrystalline Silicon Wafer Prices Remain Stable This Week

According to data from Antaike, compiled by the Silicon Industry Association, monocrystalline silicon wafer prices have remained stable this week.

The average transaction price for N-type G10L monocrystalline silicon wafers (182*183.75mm/130μm) was 0.80 RMB per piece, N-type G12R wafers (182*210mm/130μm) averaged 0.90 RMB per piece, and N-type G12 wafers (210*210mm/130μm) averaged 1.10 RMB per piece, all unchanged from the previous week.

Survey data indicates that downstream battery and module prices also remained flat week-over-week, with mainstream battery prices at 0.25-0.26 RMB per watt and mainstream module prices at 0.67-0.68 RMB per watt, showing no significant changes.

A strong wait-and-see sentiment has gripped the silicon wafer market this week, resulting in no notable price fluctuations. Looking at the specifics, on one hand, influenced by recent industry policies and industrial conferences, the willingness of silicon wafer manufacturers to sell at low prices has weakened significantly. Some manufacturers have even tentatively raised prices by a small margin. On the other hand, downstream demand remains sluggish, with battery companies placing fewer orders for silicon wafers. They are generally adopting a strategy of small-batch, price-suppressive procurement.

Overall, the supply-demand imbalance for silicon wafers remains unresolved. Upstream and downstream players are locked in a stalemate, with the market largely adopting a wait-and-see stance, leading to stable prices overall.

Industry operating rates remained unchanged from the previous week this week. The operating rates for the two leading companies stood at 52% and 54%, respectively. Integrated manufacturers saw rates between 56% and 60%, while other companies reported rates ranging from 50% to 78%.

Looking ahead, although the situation of high silicon wafer inventories and weak demand has not materially improved, the market is expected to remain stable in the short term. This is supported by a positive market sentiment and the stable price of upstream raw material, polysilicon. Should polysilicon prices rise in the future, it could trigger a rebound in sentiment across the industrial chain, potentially leading to a volatile upward trend in the silicon wafer market.
