Two separate slope collapses occurred on August 23 in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, leaving four people unaccounted for. The Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster defense response for Yunnan at 2:00 PM on the same day and dispatched a working group to the scene to guide rescue and relief operations.
The ministry has directed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately send an expert working group to the site to assist local authorities with personnel search and rescue, as well as technical support during the relief efforts. Additionally, authorities have been urged to learn from this incident and strengthen geological hazard inspections, monitoring, early warning, and preventive measures in similar situations. The China Geological Survey and the Geological Disaster Technical Guidance Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources have been tasked with enhancing expert coordination, organizational support, and joint consultations to fully assist in providing technical backing for the operations.
