MAOYAN ENT (01896) has released its interim results for the first half of 2026, revealing a net loss attributable to owners of approximately RMB 27.59 million, marking a sharp reversal from the profit recorded during the same period last year. The company's total revenue came in at around RMB 1.79 billion, representing a year-on-year decline of 27.6%, while gross profit fell by 40.2% to approximately RMB 560 million. Adjusted net profit also took a significant hit, dropping 90.9% year-on-year to RMB 21.4 million.
The company attributed the revenue decline primarily to reduced income from its entertainment content services and online entertainment ticketing services during the first half of 2026. Revenue generated from entertainment content services decreased to RMB 888 million in the first half of 2026, down from approximately RMB 1.209 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. This downturn was largely driven by an insufficient supply of major films in the market and fluctuating audience demand during the reporting period, which resulted in weaker-than-expected box office performance for some of the films the company participated in.
Meanwhile, revenue from the online entertainment ticketing business slid to RMB 834 million in the first half of 2026, compared with RMB 1.18 billion in the first half of 2025. According to data from Maoyan Pro, the total box office revenue in mainland China reached RMB 17.356 billion in the first half of 2026, down 40.6% year-on-year, while the number of moviegoers fell to 421 million, a 34.3% decrease compared with the same period in 2025.
