China's commitment to food safety is a cornerstone of building a strong province by quality, with the "vegetable basket" of the people being a top priority for livelihood. From the Shanxi Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, it was learned that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Shanxi implemented a special agricultural strategy focused on "specialty and excellence" and thoroughly carried out the "Three Products and One Standard" improvement action (covering pollution-free, green, organic, and geographical indication products).
The overall pass rate of quality and safety monitoring for major agricultural products in the province remained stable at over 98%. The quality of agricultural products has continuously improved, and supply has been increasingly optimized, making the vegetable basket of the people in Shanxi safer and of higher quality. Farmland is the source of agricultural product quality. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Shanxi built over 1.7 million hectares of high-standard farmland and collected and preserved more than 87,000 copies of crop germplasm resources, providing a solid foundation for agricultural product quality from the source.
In terms of green production, the overall use of chemical pesticides in Shanxi's farmland has decreased, and the coverage rate of soil testing and formulated fertilization technology has remained stable at over 90%. The agricultural production model is continuously transitioning to a green and ecological one. Shanxi has established 485 demonstration sites for full mechanization in grain, facility agriculture, and animal husbandry. Fifteen counties, including Jishan County, have been recognized as National Demonstration Counties for full mechanization of agricultural production. Over five years, the province has completed a pilot area of over 1.5 million hectares for central financial support of trusteeship services.
Standardization is the "hard benchmark" for agricultural product quality improvement. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Shanxi formulated and revised 475 new local agricultural standards and released 160 main standards, establishing a full-chain mechanism of "standard setting, standard implementation, and standard application." A three-tier testing system at the provincial, city, and county levels has been basically established. The "certificate + traceability" model has been fully implemented, achieving full traceability for green, organic, and geographical indication agricultural products. Shanxi revised its local regulations on agricultural product quality and safety, carried out special rectification actions, and simultaneously promoted grid-based supervision, strengthening and building a solid grassroots supervision network.
Emphasis is placed on both quantity and quality, as well as certification and branding. As of the end of 2025, Shanxi has 2,297 green and organic agricultural products, certified 360 "Shenzhen Standard" products, registered 176 geographical indication agricultural products, and recognized 175 national specialty and new agricultural products, all ranking among the top in the country. Led by the "Organic Dry Farming · Jin Brand" initiative, Shanxi has built a multi-level brand matrix, cultivating 12 provincial-level regional public brands and 46 city-level brands. Nine brands, including Datong Daylily and Xixian Yulu Xiang Pear, have been selected for the National Agricultural Brand Elite Cultivation Plan. A total of 258 million yuan has been invested to implement the Brand Strengthening County project, cultivating a variety of specialty and high-quality agricultural products.
In terms of production and sales integration, Shanxi jointly held the "Organic Dry Farming · Jin Brand" Autumn Consumption Season event with JD Group, cooperated with platforms like "East Buy" and "With Hui on the Journey" to promote specialty agricultural products, and organized enterprises to participate in domestic and international exhibitions such as the China International Agricultural Products Trade Fair. The brand influence of "Jin" branded agricultural products continues to expand. It is reported that during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, Shanxi will deeply implement the action to improve the quality and efficiency of specialty agriculture, increase efforts to develop technology-driven, green, quality, and brand agriculture, and focus on producing high-quality products. The goal is to create more high-quality green and organic agricultural products, transforming specialty agriculture into a modern and large-scale industry.
