The CSOP SK Hynix Daily (2x) Leveraged Product surged 15.00% during pre-market trading on Monday, reflecting intense investor interest in the AI semiconductor sector.
The sharp rise follows bullish comments from SK Hynix Chairman Choi Tae-won, who warned that the supply-demand gap for AI-driven semiconductors will widen further next year, putting continued upward pressure on memory prices. He stated that demand for AI semiconductors is expected to grow by 60% to 100% year-on-year next year, while overall memory semiconductor demand is also projected to increase by 50% to 60%. He described the global scramble for memory supply as reaching a "panic" level, as major manufacturers have almost no substantive capacity expansion plans for next year.
The movement also occurs within the context of a broader frenzy around leveraged bets on Korean AI stocks. Analysis indicates that assets in the Hong Kong-listed twice-levered SK Hynix fund have ballooned more than 20 times since the start of the year, making it the largest such fund globally. The extreme volatility and concentrated capital flows into single-stock leveraged products like this ETF have become a significant driver of prices in the market, often decoupling from traditional fundamentals.
