BlackRock (BLK.US) has formally established a strategic partnership with JPMorgan (JPM.US), leveraging the latter's blockchain infrastructure to introduce tokenized money market funds to the European market, marking a significant move by a traditional asset management leader in the cross-border digital asset space.
The products being launched include sterling, euro, and US dollar-denominated shares of BlackRock's (BLK.US) Institutional Cash Series. The total assets under management for this series of funds are approximately $311 billion. It is important to note that this figure represents the total size of the entire fund series, not just the tokenized portion. Each token represents a single share in the corresponding fund and supports 24/7 transfers between certified digital wallets. JPMorgan's (JPM.US) Kinexys division provides the tokenization infrastructure, while JPMorgan (JPM.US) itself continues to act as the transfer agent.
Data compiled by a market intelligence platform indicates that this architecture has achieved a technological decoupling of asset verification and transfer. Bessie Milcham, Head of BlackRock's (BLK.US) Global Cash Distribution business, noted that digital wallet providers, corporate treasuries, and capital markets participants have shown strong interest in this service, with the core demand being to find more efficient collateral solutions. Hannah Winter, Head of BlackRock's (BLK.US) Digital Cash business, added that the peer-to-peer transfer feature is particularly appealing to companies looking to settle internal funds.
Looking back, BlackRock (BLK.US) first entered the tokenized cash management market in 2024 through its US dollar-denominated Institutional Liquidity Fund, BUIDL, gaining early experience. The performance of this initial project has validated the model's feasibility. Data shows that the asset size of the BUIDL fund has now grown to $2.67 billion. This figure confirms institutional demand for tokenized cash management tools and provides market confidence for the upcoming sterling and euro shares launching in Europe.
