Toku Ltd. (TKU) announced on July, 1 2026 the public launch of Makimoto Kawa, an open-source post-conversation transcription application programming interface (API) built and hosted in Singapore.
Kawa is the first production component of Toku’s Makimoto conversational artificial intelligence roadmap. The service allows developers to upload recorded calls or voicemails and receive transcripts with speaker separation and segment-level time stamps. Each account includes a monthly allowance of 1,000 free minutes and access to an interactive playground for testing.
The infrastructure is hosted entirely in Singapore, enabling organisations to keep audio and transcript data in-country to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act and sector-specific rules from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Toku said a real-time transcription API for live voice applications is scheduled for release later in 2026, alongside the gradual open-sourcing of additional layers of the Makimoto pipeline. The company is also finalising hires for ten graduate positions in engineering, developer relations and community roles to support the project.
Makimoto Technology Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Toku Group, operates the new service, maintaining separate community and enterprise editions. Developers can access Kawa immediately at makimoto.ai.
