Brazil's June crude output hits all-time high, non-OPEC supply emerges as global oil market stabilizer

Data from Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) shows that the country's crude oil production hit a record high in June, with daily output reaching 4.5 million barrels. This represents a year-on-year increase of approximately 19% and a month-on-month rise of about 4% from May. Total oil and gas production, including natural gas, reached 5.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Supply growth from producers far from the Middle East has helped buffer the impact of military conflicts in Iran on global energy markets. As military tensions between the US and Iran disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, crude exports from the Middle East faced pressure. Before the conflict erupted, roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments passed through this critical waterway.

The conflict has also upended market expectations of a supply surplus for this year, which were previously based on production increases from non-OPEC producers. In this context, Brazil and other producer nations are filling the supply gap caused by the disruption.

Petrobras, the state-owned oil company and the primary producer for Latin America's largest economy, has taken a leading role in boosting output. The company is ramping up extraction efforts, pushing floating production platforms at deepwater fields such as Búzios to operate beyond their design capacity. ANP data reveals that fields operated solely or jointly by Petrobras account for roughly 87% of the country's total production.

Among these, the Búzios field is the largest crude oil producing area in the country, while the Mero field leads in natural gas output. According to ANP's daily production statistics, although current oil and gas output has slightly declined from the June peak, daily production remains above 5 million barrels of oil equivalent.
