The highway project for Xi'an's urban ring road, connecting Lintong via Gaoling to the airport, has received official approval from the provincial development authority. The feasibility study report for this key infrastructure venture was formally endorsed in late 2025, marking a major milestone in the project's preliminary phase.

The 54.91-kilometer route will originate at the Terracotta Warriors hub interchange on the Lianhuo Expressway, passing through the Chanba International Port Zone, Gaoling, Jinghe New City, Qinnan New City, and Airport New City before terminating at the Taiping hub interchange on the Xi'an Outer Ring Expressway. The project comprises 47.61 kilometers of newly constructed roadway and 7.3 kilometers sharing alignment with the Jingkun Expressway.

The ambitious undertaking will feature four major bridges, ten interchanges, and nine toll stations, with bridge structures accounting for 64.1% of the total length. The six-lane dual-direction expressway is designed for a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour, with an estimated total investment of approximately 15.3 billion yuan and a construction timeline of three years.

This segment represents a vital component of both the provincial highway network plan and Xi'an's urban ring road system. Upon completion, it is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion around Xi'an Xianyang International Airport while enabling seamless connectivity with major arteries including the Jingkun Expressway, Lianhuo Expressway, and Xi'an Ring Expressway. The project will also facilitate the strategic "dual-port linkage" between Xi'an International Port Zone and Airport New City, injecting substantial momentum into industrial upgrading and economic growth across key development zones such as Weibei New City and the International Port Area.
