Market concentration in the global energy storage cell industry has moved further toward leading players during the first half of 2026, with the top three companies commanding approximately 44% of the market share and the top ten holding around 84%. The competitive landscape features one dominant leader supported by several strong contenders.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) (SZSE: 300750) retains the top position with shipment volumes more than double that of the second-place company, continuously widening its scale advantage. Positions two through seven are held by Hithium, EVE Energy (SZSE: 300014), BYD (SZSE: 002594), CALB (HKG: 3931), Chuanyi New Energy, and Rept Battero, each exceeding 30GWh in first-half shipments. Competition among these firms is intensely tight, with ranking shifts highly sensitive to marginal volume changes. Positions eight through ten include Envision Energy, Gotion High-Tech (SZSE: 002074), and Sunwoda (SZSE: 300207). Chinese companies now firmly command the core stronghold of the global energy storage cell market.

Utility-Scale and C&I Storage Shipments Reach Approximately 407GWh

Global shipments of cells for utility-scale storage, including commercial and industrial applications, reached roughly 407GWh in the first half of 2026, up about 92% year-on-year. Concentration in this segment is even higher, with the top ten suppliers accounting for over 86% of the market. Utility-scale storage demands rigorous qualifications, capital performance capability, and long-term warranty strength, creating high financial and technological barriers that are accelerating order flows toward leading manufacturers.

CATL maintains a commanding lead in this category. Positions two through five are held by Hithium, EVE Energy, BYD, and CALB, with rankings consistent with the first quarter, representing the primary delivery force for utility-scale and C&I projects. Positions six through ten include Chuanyi New Energy, Envision Energy, Rept Battero, Sunwoda, and Gotion High-Tech, which occupy defensive and offensive positions within the top tier, each displaying distinctive differentiation strategies.

Residential Storage Cells Exceed 53GWh in Shipments

Compared with the utility-scale market, residential storage cells demonstrated even stronger momentum in the first half of 2026. Global residential storage cell shipments surpassed 53GWh, a year-on-year increase of approximately 113%. Market concentration in this segment is exceptionally high, with the CR10 reaching 94%, indicating that the top ten players have locked in nearly all available market space.

The top three positions are held by Rept Battero, Gotion High-Tech, and EVE Energy, which together command roughly 68% of the market share in a tripolar structure with a substantial scale gap over followers. Gotion High-Tech and Chuanyi New Energy comprise the chasing group in positions four and five, accelerating their pursuit through product upgrades. Positions six through ten include Pylon Technologies, Ampace, Ganfeng Lithium (HKG: 1772), LG Energy Solution, and BYD, which compete through diversified specialization strategies, holding advantages in niche channels and specific regional markets.

Full-Year 2026 Shipments Projected to Reach 1012GWh

The shipment surge in the first half of 2026 stems from restocking demand following the completion of European inventory destocking, combined with concentrated deliveries of utility-scale projects in the Middle East and North America. As cell prices gradually bottom out, industry competition has shifted from pure price wars to comprehensive capability contests encompassing warranty periods, overseas localization of service capabilities, and safety performance reliability.

Based on the robust first-half trajectory, total global energy storage cell shipments for 2026 are projected to reach approximately 1012GWh, representing expected annual growth of nearly 50%, with the industry maintaining a high prosperity trend through the second half of the year.
