President Trump stated in a press interview on Wednesday that the Federal Reserve holding interest rates steady is preferable to raising them, reiterating his wish for rates to decrease and forecasting that inflation will be lower by year's end compared to current levels.
When questioned about whether he would accept the Federal Reserve keeping rates unchanged for the remainder of the year, Trump responded, "Well, it's better than a rate hike. I mean, I would like to see rates come down."
Asked if he would provide some leeway for Fed Governor Waller to subsequently advocate for rate cuts, Trump answered, "Yes. I have a lot of respect for him... Don't forget, he's got a board. That board could be hostile, could hold him back. There may be people on it that don't want to do the right thing."
Regarding inflation, Trump indicated that oil prices will be volatile for a period. He predicted that once the situation with Iran stabilizes, oil prices will fall to $55 per barrel. He expects inflation to be lower by the end of the year than it is now.
On the subject of U.S.-Iran tensions, Trump declared that Iran desires a meeting and is very eager to reach a reconciliation.
