Lithium-related stocks saw early declines in Hong Kong trading on Tuesday. As of the time of writing, Tianqi Lithium Corporation (09696) dropped 3.65% to HK$34.84, while Ganfeng Lithium Group (01772) fell 3.79% to HK$38.56.
On the news front, the Yichun Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau is set to accept the environmental impact assessment (EIA) documents for the Jianxiawo lithium mining project, operated by Yichun Contemporary Amperex New Energy Mining Co., Ltd., located in the Zhenkouli area of Yifeng County and Jianxiawo area of Fengxin County. The EIA documents and public participation statements are currently in the pre-acceptance public notice phase.
Public records indicate that the Jianxiawo mine is the largest proven lepidolite (lithium mica) deposit globally, with a designed annual production capacity of approximately 100,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate at full capacity. Before operations were suspended, its output accounted for roughly 8%-10% of the nation's total production, making its restart timeline a matter of significant public interest.
This move to accept the EIA represents a crucial milestone in CATL's efforts to resume operations at the Jianxiawo mine, signaling tangible progress in the restart process.
