The city's dryland corn has entered a critical growth phase. To seize the optimal farming season and implement meticulous field management, comprehensively driving large-scale yield increases in corn, on July 3rd, the Municipal Agricultural Science Institute, in collaboration with the Copper River Dryland Corn Experimental Demonstration Station and the Yijun County Agricultural Technology Service Center, organized a technical training and on-site observation session for dryland corn field management at the corn demonstration base in Donghu Village, Peng Town, Yijun County. The demonstration field was transformed into an open-air classroom, systematically enhancing the standardization and refinement of corn field management across the city.
This training specially invited Professor Qin Xiaoliang from Northwest A&F University to provide on-site instruction. Through practical field teaching, hands-on demonstrations, and face-to-face Q&A sessions, detailed explanations were given on strategies for precise water and fertilizer regulation, green pest and disease control, and integrated "one-spray, multiple-promotion" techniques. Simultaneously, solutions were provided for challenges such as post-hail disaster recovery, drought resistance and seedling preservation, and scientific pesticide formulation. Over 70 participants, including technical backbones from district and county agricultural technology centers, heads of agricultural service centers, and large-scale growers, conducted on-site observation and learning, further mastering the complete set of key points for mid-to-late season corn management.
"Corn is a major autumn grain crop in Copper River. Dryland areas have weak water and fertilizer retention capacity. Once drought or pests and diseases strike during the mid-to-late growth stages, yields are highly susceptible to damage. The 'one-spray, multiple-promotion' technique achieves multiple effects with a single application, saving time and labor while reducing costs and increasing efficiency. It is currently one of the key technologies suited to Copper River's dryland farming model for stabilizing and increasing yields," stated Professor Qin Xiaoliang.
This on-site training delivered professional agricultural technical knowledge directly to the fields, addressing gaps in growers' cultivation techniques and bridging the "last mile" for agricultural technology services to reach the fields and benefit farmers. In the next step, the city will focus closely on the goal of increasing grain yield per unit area, routinely conduct field-based teaching and training sessions, and use precise agricultural technical services to safeguard autumn grain production, laying a solid foundation for securing a bumper harvest throughout the year.
