Starting from the first bus on Monday, August 10, 2026, Nanjing public transport will trial a "smart reservation station" model on three bus routes: Route 3, B10, and B31. This pilot program achieves three national firsts, marking a breakthrough in public transportation through comprehensive innovations in operational models, hardware platforms, and scheduling systems.

Specific arrangements are as follows:

For Route 3 (heading from Xinjiekou to Gulou), smart reservation stations are located at Beijing East Road · Jiming Temple (north side) and Beijing East Road · Jinxianghe Road (north side). Buses will not stop at these stations if no reservation has been made.

For Route B10, a reservation-responsive passage section is added. Starting from the intersection of Taishan Road and Bailongjiang East Street, based on passenger reservations, the bus can detour along Taishan Road, Hexi Street, Yunlongshan Road, and Bailongjiang East Street before returning to the original route. If there is no reservation demand, the bus will continue its current route from Taishan Road to Bailongjiang East Street. The smart reservation station, Hexi Street · Zhong Sheng East (south side), will not be served without a reservation. Service hours are adjusted from "weekdays only" to "Monday to Saturday" (closed on Sundays and public holidays).

For Route B31, a reservation-responsive passage section is added. Starting from the intersection of Meishan Village Road and Danjia Village Street, based on passenger reservations, the bus can detour along Meishan Village Road, Daishan Middle Road, Daishan Road, and Xucun Street before returning to the original route. If there is no reservation demand, the bus will continue its current route from Meishan Village Road to Danjia Village Street. The smart reservation station, Wanxingyuan, will not be served without a reservation. This route also operates on a fixed schedule, with departure times from the first stop displayed on the bus stop information board.

For boarding, passengers can swipe a card or scan a QR code at the bus stop kiosk to make a reservation. For alighting, passengers can use the dedicated electronic screen inside the bus to reserve a stop. Reservation stations are only available for stops within the service hours of the route. No fee is charged for swiping a card or scanning a QR code at the stop for reservation purposes, but passengers must pay the regular fare to ride the bus. The public is advised to plan their travel in advance.
