Analysts at Morgan Stanley have released a research note stating that copper concentrate production at the Las Bambas mine, owned by MMG (HKEX: 01208), reached 109,000 tonnes in the second quarter of this year. This output aligns with the full-year production guidance of 380,000 to 400,000 tonnes. Production at the Khoemacau mine for the first half of the year totaled 22,000 tonnes, representing approximately 42% to 46% of the annual target.

The investment bank anticipates that production in the second half of the year is poised for growth. This expectation is based on several factors, including improved equipment utilization rates, the deployment of new mining equipment, and the processing of higher-grade ore.

Morgan Stanley has reaffirmed its Overweight rating on MMG with a target price of HK$11.7. The firm's positive outlook stems from the expectation of more stable operational conditions across the company's mines in the latter half of the year. Specifically, it is projected that Las Bambas could achieve production at the upper end of its annual guidance range.

Furthermore, concerns regarding social stability in Peru, a key operating region, are expected to ease following the country's presidential election. Morgan Stanley believes that these improvements in production volumes and cost management will continue to be key drivers for the company's profit growth.
